March 30, 2015 – Schaumburg, IL – Rittal North America (www.rittal.us), the world’s largest enclosure manufacturer and a leader in competent thermal management of electrical, electronic and IT equipment, has created an app to help customers through the complex process of calculating the right amount of cooling and fans required for electronic enclosures.

The RiTherm app for Android and iPhones handles this time-consuming calculation. The app’s calculations can be sent quickly and easily as an e-mail to a colleague for action or documentation. A user-friendly interface guides operators, via their smartphone controls, to the most suitable, correctly dimensioned climate control components for their applications.

“With the density of equipment in enclosures increasing, our customers have asked us for a simple and easy tool to calculate the cooling equipment needed,” said Glenn Wishnew, manager, product management for Rittal. “The heat produced by this componentry can rapidly reach temperatures that can damage them, drastically reduce their lifespan or even lead to equipment shutdown. Having an app available on one’s phone provides much more assurance and peace-of-mind when designing a system cooling specification.”

The optimum climate control solution can be found in five easy steps—all of which the user is guided through by the app:

  • Recommendation

All evaluations are closely based on the requirements of IEC/TR 60 890 AMD 1/02.95 and DIN 3168 for enclosure cooling units.

Rittal’s climate control options offers energy-efficient, economical solutions for a variety of situations from cooling to heating. From filter fans to complex air conditioning systems, the cooling components represent world-class technology. Air conditioners utilize an innovative nano-coating applied to the condenser coils — enhancing performance while cutting energy usage and costs by as much as 40 percent and reducing carbon emissions by up to 2,000 lbs. per unit, per year. This high-tech approach can reduce maintenance demands and extend the life of the unit. Filter fans are available in an assortment of sizes and configurations and heaters can be installed with or without fans in ranges from as low as 34 BTU to as high as 2,730 BTU.
